Game Story (4/21/07): Red Sox win, 7-5

New, 8 comments

The Starter:

It certainly wasn't his best outing of the season so far, but Josh Beckett earned the win thanks to a strong offensive showing from the Sox. Beckett went 6.2 innings while striking out 7, walking two, and allowing 4 earned runs.

The 'Pen:

The bullpen continues to be a strong point for the Sox this season. Hideki Okajima (0.2 IP, 1 K, Hold) and Mike Timlin (0.2 IP, Hold) bridged the gap to Jonathan Papelbon (1.0 IP, 1 BB, 1 SO, Save) who earned his 4th save of the season.

The Lineup:

David Ortiz was the heartbeat to yesterday's lineup. Ortiz went 2-for-4 with 4 RBI and a run scored. Leadoff hitter Julio Lugo went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI, a run scored and a walk. Coco Crisp is still hot, going 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored.

The Field:

The usually steady arm of Mike Lowell committed a throwing error yesterday. Lowell has 5 on the season; he had 6 all of last season.

Winner: David Ortiz
When he needs to be clutch, he is clutch. Ortiz's 'Yankee Killin' streak continues.

Winner: Josh Beckett
He was average last night. If he wants to be a great pitcher, then he has to dominate the Yankees, too.
