Update Win Shares Oakland Series 71-62

By the time I updated my last diary with win shares from the Yankees series, it was bumped off the front page.  You can check it out here if you really want to.  Otherwise, happier Los Angeles win shares are below the fold.

Win shares updated from the Oakland series below the fold. If you must.

Crisp gets a win share on Thursday with only an intentional walk in three hitless ABs.  He was awfully close to rounding up beforehand.

Lowell's 2 for 3 with a walk on Thursday is far more demanding of a win share, and it gets one, too.

Papi's homer on Wednesday garners him a win share but not the more necessary one on Thursday.  Partly because there was a runner in scoring position for Wednesday's, but mostly due to rounding.  See Crisp, Coco.

It's been a while since I wrote that Beckett gained a win share.  It's nice to be able to say it again.

Papelbon gets two win shares, one for each save.

Tavarez loses a win share for giving up a run in an inning on Wednesday, but just barely.  Because he earned it back by sitting on the bench on Thursday.

Timlin was kind of the opposite.  He lost one on Tuesday by not playing, but then gained it back on Wednesday by pitching an inning without allowing a run.  I hope he's got his groove back.

Update [2006-8-28 1:23:25 by KENtastic]:
Here are the updates from the Seattle series.

Win shares has no knowledge of that horrible decision Crisp made to dive in Friday's game, but it takes away a win share anyway for his 0 for 3. He homers and walks on Saturday to get it back anyway.

Lopez goes 0 for 4 with three strikeouts and gets a win share. Say what? Yeah, he's now had enough games at catcher to round up to a win share on his defensive value alone. Is Varitek back soon? Not soon enough.

On Friday, Ramirez picks up what Crisp lays down in inaction, but goes 0 for 3 on Saturday to give it back to him again.

Delcarmen goes 2 and allows none, good for a win share.

Gabbard Gabbard Hey! It's a scoreless inning on Friday for a win share.

Papelbon loses a win share on Saturday in inaction. So does Tavarez, only on Friday, and he got it back on Sunday when he went two scoreless innings.

Schilling loses one on Friday by allowing five ER in 6 IP.

Snyder coughs up his only win share on Sunday by allowing six ER in 4 IP. He's now allowed 1.26 runs more than a 0-win-share pitcher would have in his 41.2 innings. Timlin gives up two ER in one inning, but stays at four win shares. Barely.

Wells went up .8 unrounded win shares, but it wasn't enough to push him over the next rounding mark.

Here are the Oakland series updates.

All downward movement on the offense's part. Cora went down on Wednesday when he went 0 for 5 with 2 strikeouts. Crisp lost his on Tuesday with basically the same line, just one fewer AB.

Beckett was a stud on Tuesday, allowing 2 ER in 7 IP, but it's not enough to put him up over the next rounding mark.

I wanted to believe in Foulke this time. I thought it could be like it was before. He allows four earned in two innings on Monday, though, and loses his only win share and my belief.

Gabbard also loses his only win share the same day by going 3.1 and allowing 5.

Papelbon gets a win share on Wednesday by pitching a scoreless inning. So, you know, there's that.

Schilling is bad bad bad on Wednesday, going 5 and allowing 6. He loses a win share.
