Open Thread: 8.18.06 vs. New York Yankees - GAME 2

OK, so the first game went less than great. It went the way it was supposed to go, I guess. Their second best starter against a guy who's since been DFA'd. Our offense didn't help the case either, going a pathetic 0-16 with runners in scoring position. We can still take the series 4-1 right? Right?!

Starting Pitchers

New York: Sidney Ponson (4-5), 5.82 ERA, 1.63 WHIP.
Boston: Jon Lester (6-2), 4.09 ERA, 1.56 WHIP.

Starting Lineups

New York:

  1. Johnny Damon, CF
  2. Derek Jeter, SS
  3. Bobby Abreu, DH
  4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
  5. Robinson Cano, 2B
  6. Craig Wilson, 1B
  7. Bernie Williams, RF
  8. Sal Fasano, C
  9. Melky Cabrera, LF
Boston:
  1. Kevin Youkilis, 3B
  2. Mark Loretta, 2B
  3. David Ortiz, DH
  4. Manny Ramirez, LF
  5. Eric Hinske, 1B
  6. Wily Mo Pena, RF
  7. Coco Crisp, CF
  8. Doug Mirabelli, C
  9. Alex Cora, SS
Notes
  • Youk is back batting leadoff. Why, I don't know. It seems especially odd considering that Coco had been better lately.
  • Our ex-Marlins get to rest a bit. Youk takes Lowell's place at 3B, while Hinske takes Youk's spot at 1B. Wily Mo is back in right field and Cora replaces Gonzo at SS.
  • Johnson got DFA'd between the games to make room for Foulke's return from the DL. Foulke's last appearance was on June 11th against the Rangers when he gave up seven hits and four runs, all earned, in 2.0 innings pitched.
