We Take the Battle to New York! Series Preview

The best rivalry in all of sports continues for three games in New York. And luckily for both teams, the three best pitchers for each team are set to dual over the next three days.

Tuesday, May 9th, 7:05 PM

BOS Josh Beckett (3-1, 4.86 ERA)
NYY Randy Johnson (5-2, 5.02 ERA)

The second best matchup of the series brings Josh Beckett back to New York for only his second game ever. His first one? He won a World Series for the Florida Marlins.

Randy Johnson hasn't been "The Big Unit" this season, as he's given up at least five runs in three of the past four games. His K/9 is down also.

Wednesday, May 10th, 7:05 PM

BOS Curt Schilling (5-1, 3.02 ERA)
NYY Mike Mussina (5-1, 2.35 ERA)

The best matchup features both teams' aces. This will be Schilling's first start against the Yankees and, historically, doesn't have the greatest success against them during the regular season.

Mike Mussina seems to be on the upswing of his career -- at the age of 37. Mussina has been lights out in each of his starts except for his one loss, and he only gave up 3 runs in that start versus the Twins.

Thursday, May 11th, 7:05 PM

BOS Tim Wakefield (2-4, 3.97 ERA)
NYY Shawn Chacon (4-1, 3.94 ERA)

Tim Wakefield brings the knuckler to Yankee Stadium. Wakefield was on the hill for the first meeting between these two teams earlier this month and historically has been strong against them (2003-2005: 85.1 IP, 3.59 ERA, .193 Opp. BA)

Shawn Chacon is another Yankee pitcher having success this season. He's even worked out of the bullpen a couple of times with not the best results (10.80 ERA in relief, 3.56 ERA as a starter).
