The Red Sox have signed outfielder Juan Gonzalez to a minor-league contract and invited him to spring training.
Interesting move here, especially with Dustan Mohr and Adam Stern hitting well. He's good depth, especially if he's healthy, but I don't think he'll want to be hitting down in Pawtucket, if it plays out like that. I'm curious to see what kind of shape Gonzalez is in at this point, also.
Sox are also eyeing Reds' outfielder Wily Mo Pena. Pena has a lot of pop, but strikes out a lot and doesn't walk. He has the capability to take over Trot Nixon's spot in right field, but I don't see that happening right now.
A trio of David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, and Pena is scary for opposing pitchers. If we traded Bronson Arroyo (or David Wells, better yet!) for Pena, I'd be one happy camper.
