News and Notes
The Paw Sox ended their seven straight games against the Syracuse Sky Chiefs yesterday on a losing note. They went 2-5 over the course of the two series and have lost their last three. In fact, they have yet to win a game without Roberto Petagine. Even worse, the minor league system as a whole has been 5-10 in the last three days with now in Boston. Could it be a the Curse of Petagine? Could the minor league system need him to balance their mojo? Well, Pawtucket is going to be a much weaker team without Petagine's bat in the line up, but I'm not so sure that's the reason why the rest of the system has gone into a mini slump after a few days of winning.
Alejandro Machado didn't start the game for the fourth consecutive day, but he did get in the game towards the end pinch running for DH, Dave Berg. Machado didn't get an AB and finished the game as the DH. Still no word on why he's been held out of the line up.
Mark Bellhorn is doing everything he can to ruin any chance he has to ever play for Boston again. After an 0-4, 2k performance last night he is now 0-16 with 7 k's in his rehab assignment. He also made an error. On the bright side, at least he walked once.
Portland received two solid pitching performances yesterday from Charlie Zink and Denney Tomori, but thanks to a lack of run support in the first game of the double header, they only managed a split. Both Tomori and Zink went the whole game, but only Zink got the win. Zink managed to do something yesterday that he hasn't managed to do all year....not suck. The 25 year old is no longer considered a prospect in the Sox system, but he did manage that great game yesterday.
