News and Notes
Alejandro Machado's absence from the line up is apparently due to a sore hand after being hit by a pitch. He's day to day.
Luis Figueroa will be leaving the Pawtucket Red Sox at the end of the week to go play for his national team.
Abe Alvarez had a great game going, but he couldn't manage to get out the final guy in the 7th inning. They brought in Cla Meredith to get the final out. Can you guess what happened? Go ahead, guess. Yep. He allowed a couple of inherited runners to score, as well as one of his own runners and he blew the game. The Paw Sox ended up coming back to win the game despite Meredith's best efforts to blow it.
Anibal Sanchez was hit pretty hard yesterday for the second consecutive start. Last week he went 6.1 IP and only allowed 3 earned runs, but he walked 5 and allowed 8 hits plus an unearned run. Yesterday he was pulled after 3.1 IP after allowing 7 runs, but only 4 were earned. He had better control this time, not walking anyone, but he was still touched for 8 hits, 1 of them a home run.
Lowell was scheduled for a day off for the second day in a row.
