I didn't even realize that the game was on in the afternoon today! Oops. I nearly missed it.
It's amazing how two bad games can erase all the positive feelings that two great weeks brought. After rattling off win after win, the Red Sox ran into a wall in the form of the Cleveland Indians, a team they beat up a week before. Last night's 12-8 loss was even tougher to stomach than Monday's 7-0 loss because the Red Sox should've had the game last night. What a horrific game for Keith Foulke. A pretty good back and forth game was ruined by an ineffictive closer.
Today the Red Sox try to avoid the sweep and could have a decent chance as they send Tim Wakefield (6-6, 4.05) against Scotter Elarton (4-2, 4.76). Wakefield seems to be a lot more comfortable with Doug Mirabelli behind the plate as his last three stellar outings have shown us. He has allowed only one 1 over his last 23 innings. Elarton has also been pretty effective lately winning his last 4 decisions. He hasn't allowed more than 3 runs in a game since May 7th, a span of 8 starts.
Let's hope our guys can pull one out today. They need this win.
