The Great Crisp Giveaway?

HT: to Dan Pesce for breaking this one first in the diaries.

According to WFAN, Coco may be traded to the Mets with the Mets sending Angel Pagan to Boston. I have to speculate at this point that the disgruntled but diplomatic Crisp we've seen in interviews is not the Coco that the FO has seen behind closed doors. Consider me not pleased if this one goes down, because describing Angel Pagan as a poor man's Crisp could be considered charitable. Unconfirmed, as of yet.

Also.

Yanks-Rays Ejections!

Keep in mind, this all started with a clean but possibly too energetic collision at the plate that resulted in an injury to a Yankees' C prospect. Nonetheless, Joe Girardi was outspoken in denouncing the hard-nosed play by the Rays, deeming it "uncalled for in a spring game". I wonder what he'll say about Shelly Duncan attempting to spike Akinori Iwamura on his slide into second base that set off the ejections today.

The only positive in this deal
is that "Angel Pagan" has the best baseball name I've ever seen.

Duncan's reaction
He said he had two choices: to slide awkwardly or to slide into the glove.

Um, with his foot, I guess.

Re: Duncan's reaction
He had three choices, with the third being "stop at first, because they've got me out by a mile at second base".

Honestly, I have no problem if Shelly was going to go for a hard but clean takeout slide, especially/only if the play were a little closer. But from most written accounts I've read, he was out out out out out. Combine that with his spikes being high enough to threaten Iwamura's ability to procreate...

Re: Duncan's reaction
Absolutely.

I was treated to the video this morning on ESPN's Cold Pizza...errm, First Take.  Definately out.  Definately attempting to spike Iwamura.  Definately a dirty, cheap play.

This is in response to in all reasonable calculations was a good, hard nosed baseball play from a rookie Ray trying to make the team.

One of the analysists (and I used the word loosely because of his previous day's views that Justin Verlander is a better "big game pitcher" than Josh Beckett) claimed that he had every right to do so and that Joe "Don't Call me Torre" Girardi was just trying to make a point.

It seems to me that the Yankees have always made their points in September and October, not in Spring training games versus the Rays.  Or at least that's how it used to be,

Re: The Great Crisp Giveaway?
i think we have to come to terms with the fact coco isnt going to have a comfortable stay here anymore with jacoby around. Coco has yet to hit great, and if he stayed in boston every swing would have to be taken knowing he could be removed from the lineup at any time. We need to trade him.

Re: The Great Crisp Giveaway?
He has said he's feeling better now than he has in the past few years. The guy just can't catch a break. My guess is, and has been for a while, that he'll begin the season starting in center and gradually make starts less and less often, until he's not playing, at which point he'll be traded.

Re: The Great Crisp Giveaway?
Right, and hes just not going to get a good rythym now where if he goes hittless for a few games he loses his starting job, and his trading value will be less than 0. He needs to play somewhere without the boston pressure where he'l be starting no matter  how he hits. If they trade him now they might get more than just paying his salary to get rid of him.
