Report: Crisp to Mets

Update [2008-3-12 15:34:40 by Allen Chace]: Theo says a no go, via Extra Bases and Amalie Benjamin.

Update [2008-3-12 15:9:21 by Randy Booth]: No word yet if this is confirmed. Also saw a rumor where the Sox could receive Jason Marquis and Sam Fuld.

WFAN out of New York is reporting that Coco Crisp has been traded to the New York Mets for OF Angel Pagon. This deal does not make much sense for Crisp though as he has clearly stated he wants a full time job. Pagon has been playing very well this spring but it is extremely doubtful he would make any sort of impact on the club.

Re: Report: Crisp to Mets
Exactly, though it's thankfully a pretty dead rumor/rumour at this point.

Good
I didn't see the time of the initial post.
I forgive you Bill Buckner.

Re: Good
Probably a function of how well it was covered, with Dan (first) and then both Randy and I contributing. It takes a lot of work to cover a rumor that died within an hour or so that well.

In other news, Iwamura might still be able to have children.

Re: Good
Too bad Billy Crystal's birthday wasn't today. It'd have been funny if he were in on the brawl today...
I forgive you Bill Buckner.

More Coco Please...

I don't agree with trading Crisp right now while he isn't worth a box of cereal in the eyes of scouts. Here's a guy who has been hurt since he got here basically. His defense is top-notch and I don't think he turned 25 and all of a sudden forgot how to hit ML pitching...I'm in favor of a platoon in CF w/ Ellsbury until his percieved value goes up a bit. Worst-case scenario: He struggles early and is benched for Ellsbury and traded for a lower-tier prospect. Best-case scenario: He actually hits and now he's a valued commodity - good problem to have. If he plays well enough, we might even be able to snag a back of the rotation SP or a decent prospect. Ellsbury won't suffer by getting 400 AB's instead of 600. The kid probably isn't 100% ready for the rigors of 162 games not to mention the fan/media obligations that come with playing in Boston.

I started my own Sox blog recently in the same vane as Monday Morning Quarterback - But for the Sox. Basically, the content will focus on Tito's game-mgmt., breaking down his decisions and what people thought of them. Check it out when you have a second! Thanks. Go Sox.

Re: More Coco Please...
+1.

Crisp is worth slightly more than a box of cereal, but teams would be taking a flier on him. He's not even worth a promising prospect unless you're a decent CF away from a playoff-caliber team. I don't see any teams out there like that.

Coco needs to stay healthy for the Sox to get any value. I don't think Coco cares about the Sox getting value, so I think he'll get traded for peanuts.
