Sox sign Kielty

Rotoworld is reporting that, "The Red Sox have reportedly re-signed Bobby Kielty to a non-guaranteed contract.  He'll earn $800,000 if he makes the team. The Red Sox appear set with a bench of Coco Crisp, Sean Casey, Alex Cora and Doug Mirabelli, so unless Crisp is dealt, there won't be room for Kielty on the roster."

I think Crisp will be dealt, and Kielty will sit nicely as our fourth OF.  I believe he was a fan favorite- personally I like him, and it's important for the Sox to have a red-head on the team.

Re: Sox sign Kielty
Maybe they call up Brandon Moss?

But I'm happy with this--I, personally, have a soft spot for the guy (Kielty, that is). I'm quite fond of that One Home Run.

Let me also say...
I still think Orlando and a pitcher for Lugo, and Coco is going to go down. Before opening day.

Re: Let me also say...
No offense, but I don't see this or any Lugo trade happening for two reason:
  1. We would be trading 50 cents on the dollar because Lugo had a bad year last year so we won't be able to get nearly what his value should get us
  2. Theo had been trying to get Lugo for a couple years, I don't see him giving up on him after only one year. Renteria was different because his personality type simply didn't fit with the Boston atmosphere so there was no reason to believe he ever would succeed in Boston. This isn't true about Lugo

Re: Let me also say...
Yeah, you are probably right. Lugo's contract is going to be hard to move. I'd love to have OC back though :)  I cannot see ChiSox starting Swisher in CF.

Re: Let me also say...
weren't they going to move konerko to LA?  This would open up first for swisher, and create a hole in the OF that they could fill with  a bowl of coco crispies.  I doubt they would give us o-cab though

Re: Sox sign Kielty
I think the Casey signing really hurts a good look at Moss this season, and that sucks.  I was hoping he'd get time at 1b.

Awesome
I love the fact that we signed an outfielder who can't hit. Maybe a deal for Coco is imminent?

Re: Awesome
Eh, he's got a lifetime .882 OPS vs. LHPs, and those are likely the only kind he'll see many PAs against anyway. Plus the whole, "giving up switch-hitting" ("not that there's anything wrong with that...") thing which probably isn't a negative.

And it's nonguaranteed.

And, at least from how he played with us, he's a pretty good corner OF with a decent arm.

Re: Awesome
I'm not saying he won't be useful in some ways, but he's very much another Sean Casey.

Re: Awesome
He's a lifetime .756 OPS.  .348 OBP vs. .335.  He'd start for some teams.  He can mash lefties.  And it's not like there were a bunch of outfielders who can hit that aren't starters in the league.  What more could you expect for a backup?
