Sunday Night Links.

Well. The Super Bowl is upon us. You can check out coverage/open threads at both:

  • Pats Pulpit, SBNation's Patriots blog written by Tom Masse.
  • and Big Blue View, SBNation's Giants blog.
  • Not interested in American football? It's cool. Paul of YFSF has done some work in projecting the 2008 Red Sox. A well-thought out and interesting read, just as it was last season.

Re: Sunday Night Links.
Well, for the Pats, it WAS a good season. But crap if it isn't all for naught now.

Other sports exist?
I had the most fun watching the football game (not watching any more, it's almost over, the Pats are up 14-10) trying to figure out similarities between Pats' players' numbers and the Sox players' numbers.

7, 10, 13, 15, 18, 19, 24, 25, 31, 33, 34, 39, 41, 44, 58, 61, and 72 all are on both teams (this is out of the roster on the Pats' official site and the Sox' 40-man--currently 39-man--roster).

Re: Other sports exist?
Pats are now down 17-14 with not even 30 seconds left.

Re: Sunday Night Links.
Pats just lost. I'm disappointed, but 18-1 is still a great season. Yes, I realize that over the next three months every sports writer is going to claim that losing (by three points, to a good team) invalidates everything the Pats accomplished. That's bs.

Re: Sunday Night Links.
I don't care what they write about that, so long as the # of "Giants played awesome" stories  > "'72 Dolphins act like smug jackasses" stories.

Re: Sunday Night Links.
I think the Giants played a hell of a game and full credit goes to the G-men's defensive line. That Eli Manning won game MVP over Michael Strahan and Justin Tuck is criminal; a flat-out joke.

Re: Sunday Night Links.
Agreed. You can even throw Umenyiora into the mix there as well, unless you absolute need the sack on the stat sheet to show that he was in Brady's face as much as Strahan and Tuck were.

Eli was good, but got away with a couple of mistakes (and really, most QBs in a win get away with something anyway).

On another note, how much would Welker have just shattered the SB receptions record if the O-Line had actually earner their money last night?

Re: Sunday Night Links.
I'm really disappointed right now but there's always tomorrow. It's unfortunate that we'll always remember this game for all the wrong reasons, but my hat goes off to every Patriot member and fan for their fantastic season. Ring or no ring, it was the greatest season of football I will ever see.

Congratulations Giants and Patriots.

Re: Sunday Night Links.
Good Giants D-Line vs. Patriots O-Line seemingly taking the night off = no time for Brady.

That's what the f' it was.

Re: Ugh.
I don't know. Though I will say, I'm sorely tempted to break into the Nationals' camp a la Willie Mays Hayes. There's no way that they won't be holding some kind of open tryouts for that ridiculous pitching staff.

Re: Sunday Night Links.
Biggest choke?

Giants v. Pats
USA Hockey v. USSR
or
Duke v. UNLV?

Honestly, I think this is a tie.

Re: Sunday Night Links.
If we're going to take it this far, then obviously we have to throw 2004 ALCS, Yankees v. Sox into the mix.
