Re: OTM's Top Prospects List: Finished!
Now that the Top 20 list is done, I'd just like to remind Allen Chace that the next poll has to incorporate "croutons" in some way. I'll quote his exact words, without exaggeration or modification:

"Ecoli:

I have decided that after the top 20 list is through, our next poll will have something to do with croutons. Take me to task if this doesn't happen AND EXTRACT A POUND OF FLESH FOR MY INTRANSIGENCE.

by Allen Chace on Thu Jan 03, 2008 at 02:04:22 AM EDT"

If he won't comply, I'll opine, "Hath not a Bacteria hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions... as a person hath? [Verily, it hath not.] If you prick us, do we not bleed? [No] If you tickle us, do we not laugh? [Rarely] If you poison us, do we not die? [Depends on the antibiotic and dosage] And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? [Definitely]"

Also, I've never had anyone, ever, quote me so accurately.

Re: OTM's Top Prospects List: Finished!
I use croutons in caesar salad, but rarely in soup, preferring instead to mop up the broth with a hunk of bread. This is the level of details you can't mine with a multiple-choice survey.

I say we stick with the multiple choice survey :-)

I second croutons for salad use.

Re: OTM's Top Prospects List: Finished!
Onion soup has croutons in it, that's the only one I've heard of though (I guess maybe some people use it as a substitute for saltines?)

Take the saltines challenge
Try to eat 7 in one minute without drinking anything. They say it's impossible, but I haven't tried it. Apparently, your mouth gets too dry to swallow.

I guess that's why you're our fearless leader.

Well I certainly can eat dry saltines with the best of them...

can you whistle with them in your mouth?
You know, a lot of people say they didn't want to die until the Red Sox won the World Series. Well, there could be a lot of busy ambulances tomorrow.

Re: OTM's Top Prospects List: Finished!
I like the list! If it was just me doing it, though, I would've put Moss a bit higher up (number eight? seven?) because he's that much closer to making the majors than, say, Hagadone.

Now where did Josh Papelbon disappear to, he had a decent season in Pawtucket.

Re: OTM's Top Prospects List: Finished!
He only pitched in low-A Greenville last season. He pitched well, but I don't consider his ceiling as high as other pitchers. If he pitches well in Lancaster, though, then he should be No. 5 on the list :)

Re: OTM's Top Prospects List: Finished!
Also have to consider that his ceiling is probably as a 7th-8th inning guy in the bigs. Whether they reach it or not is ?, but all the players in the top 20 have the potential to have a higher impact than that.

More info on Josh Pap
Josh Papelbon's scouting report from the Sox Prospects site:
"Middle reliever slash closer with a submarine delivery. ... Throws a mid 60s slider, low 80s fastball, and a low 60s changeup. Similar style and approach to Chad Bradford."
http://www.soxprospects.com/players/papelbon-josh.htm

His stuff doesn't sound too impressive (especially compared to his older brother), but Bradford has had success in the majors, so he might make it. I agree his ceiling is low. Still, it'd be awesome to have both brothers pitch in the same game.

Re: More info on Josh Pap
You never know. I had a teammate in high school who threw submariner style and had a high 50s slider. The thing was damn near unhittable when he mixed his pitches well.

Re: More info on Josh Pap
Very true, that you never know. Though I can't think of anyone other than Timmeh who throws that slow. Even Bradford throws harder than that, I think.

I don't much want Santana any more
I just don't want the Yankees to get him.

Re: OTM's Top Prospects List: Finished!
I really hope that we get to see some of these young players and they are not traded away. If most of them are as good people say they are than the Sox could have a good line up for years!

Re: OTM's Top Prospects List: Finished!
The crux is that Sox fans demand better than a good line up or decent rotation. Some of these guys will undoubtedly be traded for high-priced all-stars or super-stars.

Silly
That's what YFSF thinks of us ranking Tacoboy over Buchholz. And I think I agree with them.
