Manny out at least 10 games

Manny Ramirez may miss the next 10 games due to a strained left oblique:

"I don't think it's going to be a couple of days, it's more likely to be multiple days" that Ramirez will miss, manager Terry Francona said after last night's 4-3 loss at Yankee Stadium.

Ramirez told NESN before last night's game that he thought he would miss approximately 10 games with the injury, and he also told The Associated Press that he guessed it would be around a week. The injury forced him out of Tuesday night's series opener after he swung for a single in the sixth inning.

The Red Sox cannot say yet when Ramirez will return to action, but with rosters expanding on Sept. 1, the team will not need to disable Ramirez.

This is going to hurt. There's no doubt about that. I'd like to see Jacoby Ellsbury come up and earn take some starts in left field. I don't think we can rely on Eric Hinske for the next 10 games. Since Ramirez won't be put on the disabled list, the Sox will have to wait until Sept. 1 to bring Ellsbury up. Starting then I think he should get all the starts while Manny is out. He could be the sparkplug we need to go on another winning streak.

Extra Bases:

"Amalie Benjamin reports that Bobby Kielty took 50 swings in the batting cage before the game and is available to be used off the bench."

J.D. Drew
SUX!!I didn't see teh play but why cant Drew hit the ball out of the park for a change?

I am work listening to pseudo-yankee fans yammering about the game--idiots probably can't even name the Yankee infield.

MFY infield
Slappy, the Avon Lady, Robinson Carew, and The Giambalco (or Hall of Famers Andy Phillips and Wilson Betemit).  How'd I do?  :)
I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Re: MFY infield
Hey, I'm as big a Yankee detractor as anyone, but let's give em credit on Betemit. Excellent pickup in exchange for a guy who has enough appearances the last two seasons for his arm to literally fall off.

Re: MFY infield
Right, but Proctor has been lights out for the Dodgers...and has been an innings eater.

Re: MFY infield
Sure, but if I'm going to bet on one or the other still being useful in the next year or two, I'd have to go with Betemit.

Lights out?
Over his last 10 appearances, he's got a 6.17 ERA in 11.2 innings.
