Jose Offerman is a nut job

Jose Offerman is an idiot.

Source: Yahoo!

Former Red Sox infielder Jose Offerman was arrested Tuesday night after charging the mound and hitting the pitcher and catcher with his bat during an independent minor league game. He was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, and posted $10,000 bond. Offerman is due in Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 23, court officials said Wednesday. Offerman, playing for the Long Island Ducks in the Atlantic League, homered in the first inning. The next inning, he was hit by a pitch from Bridgeport Blue Fish starter Matt Beech and charged the mound with his bat. Offerman hit Beech in the hands and struck catcher John Nathans in the head. The Connecticut Post reported that Nathans suffered from nausea, Bluefish lefthander Mike Porzio said. Police said Beech, according to the Post, had a broken right middle finger.
What an idiot. That's all I've really got to say right now.

Re: Jose Offerman is a nut job
The story on ESPN.com says the Bridgeport GM is going to ask the league to ban Offerman for life.

Sounds like a good call to me.

Re: Jose Offerman is a nut job
I wonder if his teammate Carl Everett told him to do it...

Re: Jose Offerman is a nut job

I remember how ugly & idiotic Everett  was in that game in 2001. Was that the first game after 9/11?

The Sox couldn't ship him off fast enough.

His behavior was  beyond ridiculous. Beyond ignorant.

Re: Jose Offerman is a nut job
why not hit them with a bat.  they threw a 90mph projectile at you. maybe a few pitchers will be more hesitant to throw at a guy. really, what is the fear of a pitcher, cowards, throwing at a guy? He might charge and the catcher tackles him or the bench clears and they cover you? Good job jose and you will be banned, but I say you are a pioneer!
the difference between a yankee stadium hot dog and a fenway frank is that they dont sell yankee dogs in october anymore.

Re: Jose Offerman is a nut job
also, since all these other guys are roided up, a skinny little bastard like offerman had to defend himself!

Re: Jose Offerman is a nut job
instead of charging the mound with a bat, why not pick up the ball charge two-thirds of the way to the mound then throw the ball at the pitcher, yelling here is your ball back!

Re: Jose Offerman is a nut job
I have to be honest, if this happened, it would be piss-your-pants funny.

Just once
when the batter charges the mound, I want the pitcher to adopt the Crane position from Karate Kid.
Bottom 9th B:1 S:0 O:0 With Bill Mueller batting, Dave Roberts steals (1) 2nd base.
