Around SBN: Cal RB Jahvid Best Seriously Injured, Carted Off Field

Daily Dos(e), 4/30/07: Sox Take a Day Off

Leading off:

  • THT's John Brattain ruminates on Papi's HoF chances.
  • Rob Bradford has now set up shop at the Herald (this move was actually rumored awhile ago, and he's been there for a little while, but the new blog has only been up and running for a week or so...translation: we're late). Either way, make sure to change your bookmarks to the Bradford Files.
  • Another player from Japan? Thoughts? One of the commenters refuted Roto's take on Fukudome, who had cited Hideki Matsui as a comp. A plus defender with a rifle arm and gap power? Can anyone think of a better comparison?
The Question:

What's the first thing you would do if you were named the manager (or general manager) of the Yankees?

Think serious answers, like realizing that using the bullpen all in one night is a bad idea. Think answers with a little or a lot less of a serious tone.

An answer:
  • What is Abreu playing at with all those moronic attempts at bunting? Cut that crap. Also, it was mentioned on Pinstripe Alley, but the Sweating Frog looks a better bet for the 3 hole, until Abreu regains his terrific on-base skills.
  • Chris Britton is a decent pitcher. Bring him up.
  • Does Mo need to go on the DL? Get him checked out.
  • Does Damon need to go on the DL? Get him checked out.
  • Drop Minky to the bench, and use only for late-inning defensive purposes. Or for Scrabble.
  • Two hundred red roses delivered in a new Ferrari at the Rajah's door.
  • Take Carl Pavano round the back of the stables and shoot him.
  • And ask for a transfer to the NL West.
Why not us again?

Carl Pavano deserves an unpleasant and exotic punishment. Like getting whipped with sweaty, post-game socks and jocks.

All that guy has ever done w/ the Yankees is sit on his duff and collect a fat paycheck.

I just wanted to say that I loved your entire answer...a perfect mix of serious suggestions with some snarkiness thrown in for good measure. :)

Off Topic
But I saw this today -

"the Braves left fielders began Sunday ranked last in the major leagues at their position in batting average (.157), on-base percentage (.228) and RBIs (three)."

Sounds like a fit for WMP. Think he could bring us Salty? Or maybe one of their fireballing middle relievers? Let's go Theo, exploit their weakness.

Just my two cents. Keep the change.

Re: Daily Dos(e), 4/30/07: Sox Take a Day Off
Probably what the yankees need to do is rebuild. The 'we must win every year' approach has made them progressively more unbalanced each year since '98.
Ask Torre if he really wants to still be there. He isn't firing them up and if he's just playing one more year till retirement that isn't what's needed to get them out of this hole.
Short term they need to trade for pitching. Not even an ace, just a solid 2 or 3 guy who can eat innnings and a middle relief guy. With Cabrera in the wings I'd trade abreu or matsui. Scoring 8 doesn't help if you're giving up 9.
if their starters are only going five they need their relivers to go 2, that would get them down to four pitchers a day, and at least they'd have a chance of having someone left come august.
But nothing is more fun to watch than the Yankees losing.
"who do you root for?" "I don't know, who are the yankees playing?"
