Prospects update: Kalish ahead of the pack

Just an update regarding the voting for OTM's No. 7 prospect. Through 72 votes, Ryan Kalish holds a slim 5 vote lead over Nick Hagadone. Will Middlebrooks is just 6 votes behind Hagadone as well. Brandon Moss only trails Middlebrooks by one vote.

Hagadone supporters need to keep pushing for their man, but I'm not sure if the Kalish-Train can be stopped. I will run voting until about 100 or so and declare a winner.

How in God's name is Middlebrooks even in the hunt? Whatever your voters are smoking, I want some.

The idea of having our own Braun with better defense makes me drool, or maybe that is just from whatever I am smoking. I am not sure

I voted for Middlebrooks simply because he could be a real star someday.

I voted for him because he looks like he's got at least as much potnetial as Kalish, probably more, and frankly Kalish has a pretty small sample size (not his fault, certainly) in the minors. A small bit through the next season and Middlebrooks could have as many at bats w/as good numbers. Also, if he's ready in a couple-few years, we're likely to need either a SS or 3B (or both).

Lots of maybes and ifs, but lots of potential as well. That being said, the top three in this poll for me is really, really tight and I'd be fine w/Kalish, Hagadone or Middlebrooks winning 7th.

I weigh 270lbs... my doctor constantly yells at me about the weight, the high cholestrol, etc., etc., etc., I could be a real star someday too... you going to vote for me?

Does anyone remember Brady Anderson? Traded to Baltimore for Boddicker? He was the real deal we were told back then too. OOOOOHHHH, what about Mo Vaughn? Sam Horn? These guys too were "potential" big leaguers when they were in the minors. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not taking anything away from these guys, but "they didn't stick around."

Anyone that could vote for someone like that based on a high school season truly makes me wonder what type of 'true' fans we have.

Finally, if we're going to go down the road of top prospects, I truly believe we should not consider anyone that hasn't proven themselves in the minor leagues as of yet, and concentrate on those that may have big league experience. That is truly your "prospects" in my humble opinion.

Thanks for the opinion, but please don't question what type of fan I am. I outlined my rationale and said that I had a tight pack at the top and though that Middlebrooks deserved a vote. And for the record, SP rates Tejada at 9 and Middlebrooks at 11, so it's not like we're alone thinking people who haven't "proven" themselves in the minors could be pretty damn good.

Also, you're already on the record as saying that while you "like Anderson before Bowden" you "wouldn't classify either one of them as a 'prospect.'" So, considering your list of prospects stops at number 4, I'm thinking you're a little on one extreme side of looking at prospects.

Hey, sorry if that sounded harsh. I didn't mean "extreme" as in bad or nutso or anything, I just think in anything there's a natural bell curve with some folks on one end and some on the other. Here you focus on experience as the absolute key to what a prospect is all about (so you're on the one end), and I'm far more concerned about potential (putting me at the other end).

No need to apologize, I for one can be a real pain in the "dupa." As my departed mother use to call me an @sshole due to my arguing. I missed my calling as a lawyer, but I figured the world had enough of them, boy was I wrong!!! LOL

Seriously, though. As time ran on, I realized what we were calling prospects and what I considered a "true" prospect where no longer the same. I too apologize to the thread if anyone took me wrong in my comments on the 'true' fan base RSN has. I know only a true fan will argue about items this important, and I mean that in a good way!

Finally, unless I'm actually seriously missing something from my readings, Middlebrooks hasn't even seen a minor league pitch yet, has he? If so, then I may be the one smoking the wrong stuff.

Right now, with the O's apparent unwillingness to deal within the division, just about everybody could blow us away.

I'm amazed that a team would take that approach, effectively eliminating four other teams as possible trade partners. I understand the hesitation to help the opposition, but it would make more sense to me to take away from their farm system - and boy, could they demand a lot for Bedard.

Agreed. Baltimore should more focused on getting past Tampa this year. Just get the best deal.

That said, if they can get Bailey, Hamilton, and Votto, we couldn't top that offer anyway, so it's moot. We'd have to offer buchholz and crisp or lester and ellsbury to beat that, i'd think. and that would be ridiculous.
