GT: World Series Game II: Electric Boogaloo.

So it all comes down to this. One game. One game for the title.

Wait. Huh? What's that? We didn't win three games in one game last night?

Uh, no [censored] Sherlock. Wait. You say all Red Sox fans have been acting that way?

...no. No. Wrong again. The media who picked the Red Sox have been acting that way. Using words like "defeated" and "demolished"  and "way dead" to describe the Rockies. Your average Sox fan doesn't use these words. Heck. Check the general opinion of Sox fans. We're not even supposed to know these words.

I must be leaving for work, but first, Sox lineup.

PedRoYa, 2b
Youks, 1b
Papi, dh
"Being", "lf"
Lowell, 3b
Drew, rf
'Tek, c
Ellsbury, cf
Lugo, ss

Rox lineup is not available at this time. I can only assume either A) Miss Amalie Benjamin has not yet seen it, or B) The Rockies are trying to find a way to sneak Vinny Castilla onto the roster.

[update, by NHREDSOX] Rox Lineup

W. Taveras, cf
K. Matsui, 2b
M. Holliday, lf
T. Helton, 1b
G. Atkins, 3b
B. Hawpe, rf
T. Tulowitzki, ss
Y. Torrealba, c
R. Spilborghs, dh

Rockies' talented rookie Ubaldo Jimenez takes the mound against The Big Schill. Jimenez is tough and has good 'stuff'. The key here will be whether or not he has good control, because he's not immune to allowing walks (37 BB/82 IP).

Schilling, as you may have heard from the media, has no real pitches at all, and is surving only on words like "guile" and "finesse". His breaking pitches have no movement, and Jason Varitek only has to call one pitch these days: the guilenessball. Or wait. Some of that might not be correct.

Pre-game reading material: A gem from FJM.

Go Sox. Win.

Re: GT: World Series Game II: Electric Boogaloo.
Hey, you know who made a career out of guile and finesse? Greg Maddux -- and he's one of the all-time greats.

Guile and finesse can win the World Series. And I'd take them over Rick Vaughn without glasses any day.

Re: GT: World Series Game II: Electric Boogaloo.
Gaylord Perry.

Hoyt Wilhelm.

Wilbur Wood.

Whitey Ford.

Just a few names that conjure up "guile and finesse" among the pitching greats of the Major Leagues.

Seems to me that puts our man Mr. Schilling in excellent company.

Let's hope ...
Boston can hit Ubaldo Jimenez, or at least wait him out (he walks a lot of hitters).  My only worry is the Sox' tendency of making pitchers they've never seen look like Cy Young.

I also hope Schilling brings his A-game.  A 2-0 lead would give the Sox a huge edge the series, especially with Beckett throwing again in Game 5.

I gotta go 'cause I'm probably definitely gonna nod out again.

Re: Let's hope ...
There ain't gonna be no game five.

That is until we lose one, and I'm not willing to concede that until it actually happens. :)

WRT Jimenez I thought I saw a stat that he'd walked only 2 in 2 starts. Note: I could be out of my mind since I tend to ignore the NL until WS time.

Re: Let's hope ...
For 2007, (his only full season in the majors), Jiminez has walked 37 batters in 82 innings.  He does have 68 Ks, but a 4.28 ERA, and 4-4 record in 15 starts.

I heart Ozzie Guillen
I love that guy if only for the sheer amount of crazy he brings to the game. I was endlessly amused to see his contract extended into 2012. The only way it could have gotten better is if the MFY had hired him.

Heh, i think guillen wouldv been a very good thing for the yankees. But it wasnt going to happen thats for sure:P

Re: GT: World Series Game II: Electric Boogaloo.
"the guilenessball"

Now THAT is funny, thank you for making my morning.
So our 17 hit, 8 walk, 13 run lineup is facing a rookie with a tendency to walk hitters(and impatient NL hitters at that)?

Hmmm, as someone pointed out above, we've tended to make the average guys look great(see Westbrook Byrd), however this time, I don't think so.  Logic suggests we should pound the kid out of the game by the 5th.  Of course is Schilling doesn't bring his best "guilenessball" then it could be a slugfest.

Game #2 Simulation
2500 simulations are in.  The Simulator is giving the Rockies a win probability of 51.85% in Game #2, but never fear because Vegas is giving the Red Sox a win probability of 65.16% and the Log5 method has the Red Sox with a win probability of 64.67%.  Obviously, the simulator is incorrectly modelling "guile" and "moxy".  This is a must win game for the Rockies and fortunately for them a 12 run loss is the same as a 1 run loss, even if Joe Morgan says otherwise. :)

Maybe they input it as "Moxie", the drink that gives you the runs.

"fortunately for them a 12 run loss is the same as a 1 run loss"
Oddly enough, and for once in my life, I'm inclined to agree with Joe.  I think it can be demoralizing to such a young team and if we keep our foot on their throat this thing will be done in 5 games.
Seriously they couldn't even get inspired by the sight of Gagme on the mound to pound out a few runs and make it look more respectable.

o.k., its only 1 run.  Schill seemed to throw some decent strikes and how often are you going to get a HBP and a Lowell error in the same inning?

Re: GT: World Series Game II: Electric Boogaloo.
A better effort. 10 pitches, got a K and a DP.
That's Schills problem these days isn't it?  He has trouble getting that K when he really needs it.  He no longer has an effective out pitch.  Personally if we win this thing the club should strongly suggest that he retire.

by sydneysox on Oct 25, 2007 9:00 PM EDT   0 recs

Re: GT: World Series Game II: Electric Boogaloo.
I don't think it'll need to be suggested. I think Schill's probably already thought about it.
