Coco Crisp Trade Options [Promoted Diary]
Now that Ellsbury has shown he is ready to play in the show, it is time to talk about what to do with coco. He is not going to want to be a reserve outfielder and he is to good to be one. The question is what is his value at this point? After a terrible year last year and a bounce back year this year it is hard to say what we could get for him. He is a good bat with excellent defense and is relatively cheap.
Any ideas?

"a bounce back year this year"
I imagine we can get something decent for him, though probably not "fair value." Though the clearing the way for Ellsbury is value in and of itself.
There'll be a big turnover of CFs this year, so it's probably too early speculate who specifically would be a good trading partner.

Maybe
Hunter
Jones
Cameron
Rowand
I could see the Braves in play for either Rowand or Cameron. I've also heard rumors about the Yanks making an offer for Santana based around Melky, Wang and Kennedy (though I'd think the Twins would want Hughes or Joba...).
If Rowand does leave, maybe the Phils would make a good match? Or is Victorino a CF?
I'll think harder about all this once the Sox win in 5.

Re: Maybe
I don't know that I'm crazy about that solution, but it would give us an excellent outfield and fill our gap at corner infield, with Youk going to third. I think I'd prefer to keep Youk at first, but Lowell is the best 3B on the market, and he seems set on leaving unless he gets a long-term deal.

Re: Maybe
Helton is good, no doubting that. But he's a big fish in a small pond, and he's also no kid anymore.
Holladay's young, but he'd come with an expensive price tag, especially if he wins the MVP (which he probably will).

Re: Coco Crisp Trade Options [Promoted Diary]
Also, I predict Lowell to Philly 5 year deal. And we make a trade for Dunn who will play 1B and move Youk to 3rd. Crisp to Cinci, along with Hansen and Tavarez after we pick up the latter's option? Would that be enough?

Re: Coco Crisp Trade Options [Promoted Diary]
What it all adds up to is, if Coco will play 4th OF, he'll probably get 400 ABs easily and be a significant contributor. And the team will be better off with him.
If his hitting improves, he can have LF when Manny eventually goes (2009), at least for a while.

Re: Coco Crisp Trade Options [Promoted Diary]
Coco has basically stated he is gone. This is one of those occasions in sports where the team and player are in agreement. He is an everyday CF and Ellsbury is the future. No hard feelings, its better to move him ASAP, avoid the potential media problems, make a fair trade (like the Willy Mo trade) and each side move on.
Hopefully Coco will have a ring and this move will be similar to Pedro leaving, meaning both sides feelings were not hurt.
Also, I keep reading Oakland wants to deal Haren before he bolts for free agency. Red Sox should jump on that with a Coco package, you know with other prospects as well.
