Let's Go Sox!
Cleveland does not "rock".

But if necessary, (and I declare that it is) the Sox will ROCK Cleveland.

Foulke
Can't see it happening. I don't think he was too happy about being booed out of town. I imagine he'll want a fresh start, with a lower profile than he'd get in Boston.

Re: Foulke
35 years old?  And with elbow surgery?

I've had similar surgery on my shoulder back in the day (some 20 years ago).  By 35, it was arthritic and I could predict the weather 12-24 hours ahead of it.  And I wasn't planning on pitching at any level.

Pass.  Maybe Tampa Bay would be interested.

Game Three Win Probabilities
The Simulator is giving the Red Sox a win probability of 50.76% and the Las Vegas Hilton Sports Book is giving the Red Sox a win probability of 53.49% in Game #3.  The simulator correctly picked the Indians to win Game #2, while Vegas still had the Red Sox as big favorites.  The simulator is pretty much calling this game a toss-up, while Vegas gives a slight edge to the BoSox.  Either way, should be a good game.   vr, Xei

Re: Game Three Win Probabilities
it's been tracking the Las Vegas Hilton Sports Book and after simulating almost every NL West game this year it was trailing LVHS by 1.12%.  So far in the LCS the simulator is ahead by 3% (small sample size).  I don't track the prediction of outright winner/losers of games, because that number will be dependent on how evenly matched the two teams that I am simulating are.  The best benchmark is another simulator doing the same thing (I know of none) or Vegas because they put odds/win probabilities on each game.   vr, Xei

Bench Drew; bring in Jacoby
Francona needs to put Ellsbury in right field.  Drew is now 1 for 10 with RISP.  He may be great next year, but this season has sailed, let's put in Ellsbury, he couldn't possibly be any worse, and he may very well bring the spark the Sox offense needs right now.

I heard a quote from Orel Hershiser where he said that, basically:

Re: I'm not worried.
I'm more concerned with the the Sox are not doing, as opposed to what the Indians have done.  They don't look all that impressive, to be quite honest.

Sure, they've won the last two, but the Sox have been empty uniforms in those 2 games.

I still think that (given the peformance so far) that the next 2 are 'Must' games.

Re: I'm not worried.
On the other hand, I'm seriously worried.

It's going to be Wake tomorrow, and whoTF knows who shows up.

We're too patient a team for Paul Byrd, I think.

Am I being pessimistic? Sure. But I didn't feel like the momentum (if you believe in such things) shifted after Game 2, but I do feel like it has now.

by Allen Chace on Oct 15, 2007 10:42 PM EDT up reply actions

Re: I'm not worried.
For some reason I feel like the momentum shifted midway in game 2 but cleveland has now peaked.  We're flat on our backs and due for a comeback.  I think our guys are going to be pissed after tonight and the fire will return to their bellies.
The pressure on Francona to put in JB is going to be huge.

by dave in CT on Oct 15, 2007 10:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Re: I'm not worried.
Relax. You're sounding like the typical Sophoclean tragedy Sox fan. Saturday's game was TIGHT until Gagne went and screwed it all up.

Today was a problem, but it's one game. I'm not wild about Wake (but I'm guessing he will be plenty wild for the both of us) tomorrow, but I still think Byrd is toast. But could we please replace Drew already? If we lose tomorrow I'll get worried. We came back from a 3 game deficit in '04 we can certainly handle 2-1.

by sdkramer.otm on Oct 15, 2007 10:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Re: I'm not worried.
It being tight is why I don't think the momentum shifted in Game 2. I feel like we had the pitching matchup tonight, and Westbrook (credit to him) pissed all over that. I'm not confident we have the pitching matchup tomorrow.

I'm feeling like we'll see Game 6 in Boston, Carmona v. Schilling, with the Clevelands up 3-2.

by Allen Chace on Oct 15, 2007 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Re: I'm not worried.
I don't think Sabathia and Carmona will be pushovers a second time.  We're gonna need some really good pitching here on out.

SIX.

Great job by the Bullpen, no doubt about it.  That is a bright spot in an otherwise dismal outing tonight.

Crapola
Three game changing moments -
  1. Bases loaded in the 2nd, no outs. Tek pops out, Coco DPs.
  2. Blown ball four call to Manny. Wouldv'e loaded the bases with 1 out for Lowell.
  3. Blown ball four call to Coco after Tek's HR. Momentum killer after Coco goes down.
But Dice K stunk. He looked good striking people out, but 4 runs and 90-odd pitches through 4.2 stinks.

I have no idea about Wake tomorrow.  Nothing would surprise me.  He could be shelled or he could shut them out.

I'm still hoping Francona will reverse himself and put in JB though.  As I'm sure the entire eastern seaboard is hoping.  (well except for a certain well-lit island ...)

Re: Rain in the forecast for tomorrow
Little chance of a rainout.

Did you see the weather in Denver yesterday?

By game time, it had been raining for nearly 24 hours, temps were in the low 40s (ended up in the mid 30s by the end), and it was as close to snow as you could get.

There's too much money in these games to call it on weather.  Doesn't mean it couldn't happen, but it would have to be a LOT of rain to get it postponed;  though I wonder if a day off would help the Sox regroup.
