Community Projections: Daisuke Matsuzaka
They're back!
Community projections are back for the 2007 season. We did them last year and, surprisingly, we did a pretty good job (it was summed up at one point, but I'll try and find the article again).
So lets start another season of them. Our first projection can be for the biggest news of the off-season so far, Daisuke Matsuzaka.
Of course, nothing has been inked yet, but we know it will. So put down what you think he's going to do and then I'll compile it and see what we got. Here are the categories:
Innings Pitched:
Wins:
Losses:
Games Started:
Strikeouts:
Walks:
Earned Run Average:
WHIP:
Copy that form, paste it into a reply, and fill in your answers. After a couple of weeks we can see what the community thinks.
Go Sox!

I won't be greedy... we can wait for his first 20-win season until 2008.

Conservative for our 25 mil man. Its true that he's dominate, and has great stuff, but we know that Beckett does too. I figure he's going to struggle with his control because of the culture shock, and difficulty in communicating well with the coaches. Also, he's going to have to adjust to pitching in Fenway, where he will struggle with the gopherballs.

Boras demands $20M/year. Theo says no. Matsuzaka goes back to Japan.

That was my attempt at statistical sarcasm. I'm reeling from the possibility that we might sign such an unpleasant player. According to Derek Lowe, his most common nickname in the Dodgers clubhouse was a little stronger than what Edes reported.

Re: Community Projections: Daisuke Matsuzaka
With a WHIP that high, there's no way his ERA could be as low as 3.13.

Re: Community Projections: Daisuke Matsuzaka
With a 2.05 WHIP and just 47 walks in 185 IP, that would have meant D-Mat would have to allow about 330 hits. A pitcher who allowed that many hits in 185 innings would likely have an ERA over 6.00, and he'd require a lot of luck to keep it that low.

We don't need K-Youk, D-Ped, M-Low, T-Nix, J-Pap, T-Wake, etc.

Based on his agent, Scott "I don't care if my clients play or not" Boras.
(I'm in a bad mood about the Manny/Drew nonsense and this may be just pessimism talking, but nobody's lost money by overestimating just how much Boras can be a prick.)
