The Song Game f/ Schilling and More

[editor's note, by Randy Booth] I'm off to Keene State College tomorrow morning. I'm currently packing, and the computer will soon be going. I should be all set up pretty early tomorrow, though, and don't expect to miss a beat.

With Curt Schilling's start last night, I suddenly got a song in my head that perfectly describes Schilling (WARNING: I am a country fan):

"As Good As I Once Was" by Toby Keith

I ain't as good as I once was
I got a few years on me now
but there was a time, back in my prime
when I could really lay it down

...

I used to be hell on wheels
back when I was a younger man
now my body says, "You cant do this boy"
but my pride says, "Oh, yes you can"

How true, right? But there is another verse in the song that may also ring true:
I ain't as good as I once was
but I'm as good once as I ever was
maybe not be good as I once was
but I'm as good once as I ever was

He's as good once as he ever was, and I believe that. Schilling's career isn't over. He's going to rebound. And he's going carry this team on his back. I believe it.

Here are a few more Red Sox related songs:

Kevin Millar
"Something More" by Sugarland

There's gotta be something more
Gotta be more than this
I need a little less hard time
I need a little more bliss
I'm gonna take my chances
Taking a chance I might
Find what I'm looking for
There's gotta be something more

This basically describes Millar's struggles. I have to admit, after watching both Manny Ramirez and Millar play left-field recently, Millar will never stop playing his hardest. You have to appreciate that about him.

Mike Remlinger
"Kick My Ass" by Big and Rich

Self explanatory just by the title. The lyrics don't do Remlinger justice, so I'll just leave you with the title.

Mark Bellhorn
"Do You Want Fries with That?" by Tim McGraw

A cheap shot at Mark Bellhorn and his unemployment. I'm sorry, Mark.

I Like That
Myself being a big country fan I find your songs quite apprpriate. Especially for Bellhorn, MCDonalds coming up. Maybe Embree can join him as well.

RE:
Thanks. Oddly enough, Tim McGraw's father was Tug McGraw, an All-Star pitcher for the Mets and Phillies.
