John Tomase On Manny

Today on WEEI's Big Show, John Tomase of the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune
attempted to defend his pathetic article on Manny Ramirez from
yesterday. While doing so, he engaged in the following exchange with
the show's host, Glen Ordway:

Ordway "It's almost as if we have accepted Manny for what he is" Tomase "That's what I have a big issue with, Why is that acceptable? That's like saying 'Jeffery Dahmer has had people in his freezer for a while now, so that's what he does.'"

Star-divide

That is a verbatim quote. A comment like that should get Tomase suspended. Comparing Manny to one of the most despicable serial killers in history? That is just disgusting. The man should be made to defend
his job if Bill Burt, his editor, had any integrity.

I mean, that is a complete joke. I suggest those who agree with me
write the following individuals:

Irving E. "Chip" Rogers
Chairman and Publisher
CRogers@EagleTribune.com

Richard M. Franks
President and Chief Executive Officer
RFranks@EagleTribune.com

and complain about such a comparison. Mr. Tomase should be disciplined for such an outrageous comparison in my opinion.

Maybe a bit overboard
While I disagree with Tomase's point about Manny, I actually think Manny is having a good year and putting forth good effort. He's on pace for 40 homers and 12 rbi's for crying out loud. People get so hung up on batting average, when on base % and rbi's are so much more important.

As far as Dahmer goes, come on, it doesnt warrant a suspension. Its a sports radio show, and believe me they say much worse. Plus, I think you're reading in to it a bit. He wasn't saying Manny is like Dahmer. He was saying just because some one does things all the time doesn't make it acceptable, he used perhaps a colorful reference to make his point.

You took the words over my mouth
A suspension over something as silly as that? Nah.

RE: Manny
Anyone notice his SecAvg was at .374 (second on the team) when I posted those stats Tuesday?

Well, yeah...
Well, I realize Tomase wasn't saying Ramirez WAS the exact same as Dahmer. So what? The man is a professional journalist, supposedly. His job is to cover Ramirez in a professional fashion. To compare, as a journalist, a baseball player who you allege is sometimes a slacker, to one of the most dispicable serial killers ever is unprofessional. I realize he was just making an analogy. Again, so what. Its unprofessional and you wouldn't catch respected reporters doing it. Its a pathetic comparison that shouldn't be made by any competent, ethical journalist. Period. Its patently absurd to argue otherwise, that its acceptable for a journalist to do publicly in any forum. Period.

And as for The Big Show, can you give examples of "worse" things they say which you claimed above?

Tomase
Funny article from him.  I caught some spelling errors though.  Must mean he "doesn't care".  It's sad when an editor just accepts and article as it's "just Tomase being Tomase".  Being at the game I was surprised Manny stayed in the game at all, that pitch seemed to hit him in a really tough spot.  Of course Tomase wouldn't think so because he probably hasn't been in a batter's box in 20 years.

Is Manny getting shopped around again
Just a rumour I heard, and I hope it's not true.

Hanley
I believe the rumors pertain to Hanley Ramirez, not Manny Ramirez.
