Recap: Oakland vs. Chicago WSox

Sports Network | August 16, 2008

Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - Toby Hall finished 2-for-3 and drove in a run, as the Chicago White Sox edged the Oakland Athletics, 2-1, in the second of three games from McAfee Coliseum.

Juan Uribe doubled in the other run for Chicago, which has won four of its last five games and remain tied with Minnesota for first place in the AL Central after the Twins clipped the Seattle Mariners, 7-6, on Saturday.

John Danks (10-5) picked up the win after he gave up one run on six hits with five walks and five strikeouts over six innings. Danks has won seven of his last eight decisions. D.J. Carrasco, Matt Thornton and Bobby Jenks each tossed a scoreless inning in relief.

Emil Brown had two hits and knocked in the lone run for the A's, who have lost 15 of their last 18 games.

Greg Smith (5-12) absorbed the loss after he allowed two runs on eight hits in five innings of work. The lefty has dropped his last six decisions.

The White Sox opened the scoring in the second. Paul Konerko led off with a double and later scored on a one-out double by Uribe. Hall then ripped a single to right for a 2-0 lead.

An RBI single off the bat of Brown put Oakland on the board in the third.

The A's loaded the bases with one out in the fourth on a Rajai Davis double and walks to Mark Ellis and Kurt Suzuki, but Frank Thomas grounded into a 5-3 double play to spoil the rally.

Thornton struck out the side in the eighth and Jenks tossed a 1-2-3 ninth to nail down his 25th save in 28 opportunities.
