Game 46
Oh Josh Beckett, please come and save us from the evil cult of the Devil Rays as you have so often before.
Do not allow the evil Joe Maddon, who fabricates history and plays the victim while scheming to inflict grevious harms, to emerge victorious!
Cast off the pall of last night's debacle and bring your comrades back to a place of respectability!
Win a damn baseball game. Come on.
Go Sox!
Game 45
Fifth time's the charm?
The Sox are after a winning record...again...having failed in their first four attempts. Now they'll have to take out their division rivals in the Rays to get there, which is something they've actually been entirely capable of doing so far this season.
Unfortunately, the attempt will come without Will Middlebrooks, which makes me sad and should do the same for all of you. Because nothing brightens up a day like a strong Will Middlebrooks at-bat.
Go Sox!
Game 44: Get Back To .500, Please?
Boston attempts to win their first series against Baltimore since July of 2011 this afternoon down in Camden Yards. Today also represents the end of the dreaded 20 games in 20 days portion of the schedule, and a win today would put Boston 11-9 in that stretch. It doesn't get them to .500 on the season, but with all of the injuries they've dealt with, it's a start that's easily taken when offered.
Let's try not to talk about who is starting in center today for Boston, okay?
Hey, I said let's not talk about it. Let's instead focus on how much more appealing the rest of the lineup looks, now that Kevin Youkilis is back in it, and without the loss of Will Middlebrooks, even.
It's not showing up in his ERA or W-L record yet, but Arrieta has possibly been Baltimore's best starter in 2012 thanks to an impressive K/BB. Bard looks more and more like someone who is in the midst of on-the-job training each time he's out, but there's a reason for that: Bard is in the midst of on-the-job training. Hopefully today Bard has the same kind of eye-opening experience that the struggling Brian Matusz had last night, when everything came together for him at once.
Away with you, vile orange-winged demon, and take your treacherous memories of the past with you. Go Sox!
Game 43: Adrian In The Outfield
Hey, kids, it's time to watch Adrian Gonzalez try his hand in the outfield! Kevin Youkilis is back, Will is staying at third, and Adrian is headed out of the infield to make it all happen.
The Sox survived another bad outing from Clay Buchholz to move back up to .500 last night. Now they'll have a chance to finally move above that mark for the first time on the season, and possibly escape the cellar of the AL East for the first time in a long while behind Felix Doubront.
You have to admit, that's a decent looking lineup if you ignore the positions. And even then, it's just the one man out of place.
Go Sox!
Game 42
Revenge time!
Or return to sucking time!
Both seem entirely possible, between our return to Baltimore and Clay Buchholz taking the mound and the fact that we've got a third-division major league team on the disabled list.
Nava - Byrd - Lin! Oh my!
Go Sox!
Game 41
Apparently the Red Sox have to face some guy named Lee today. This seems unfair, and we should all protest.
Yeah, that's the guy.
I'll leave you all to figure out the lineup for yourselves, because it's not likely to matter given who they're facing.
Also because it's not out yet and I won't be back until too late.
Anyways...
Go Sox!
Game 40: Jon Lester Takes On the Phillies
Jon Lester has dominated the Phillies in the three games he has started at Citizens Bank Park. He looks to continue that dominance against Joe Blanton tonight. Let's see if Mr. Blanton tries to sneak another fastball by Daniel Nava tonight.

Game 39: Interleague Starts In Philadelphia
Boston has finished up two-straight two-game series, but the bout of weirdness isn't over yet, as they now head to Philadelphia for interleague play.
As for pitchers, there's potential for a duel here tonight, depending on which version of Daniel Bard decides to show up.
If the Red Sox never see Papelbon in this series, it means they've knocked the starters out early enough to see the rest of the Phillies bullpen. Focus all hopes and dreams on that particular thought. Go Sox!
Game 38: Young Lefties Square Off
Heading into the season, Matt Moore was one of the top 3 prospects in baseball. Felix Doubront was not as well regarded. He was not regarded at all actually. So it is not surprise that Moore leads Doubront in every pitching category except wins, ERA, FIP, xFIP, K/9, BB/9, HR/9...wait. I guess that is surprising. Surprising and awesome.
Moore and Doubront go head to head tonight as the Red Sox try to split this two game series in Tampa Bay and return to playing winning baseball
