Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia was removed from Saturday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays after he was hit in the head by the forearm of Logan Forsythe. Forsythe appeared to have swung his elbow while sliding into second base, making contact with the left side of the second baseman's head.
Pedroia had just received the throw from center fielder Mookie Betts when he turned around to tag Forsythe around the second base bag. Sliding head-first, Forsythe raised and swung his right arm. After being hit in the head, Pedroia slumped down on the ground and was met by Red Sox manager John Farrell and trainer Brad Pearson at second base.
Brock Holt moved to second base and Will Middlebrooks came into the game at third base. The incident is just the latest chapter in the ever-growing Red Sox-Rays rivalry.
Here is a look at the video of Forsythe's arm colliding with Pedroia's head.
