Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker came within seven outs of a no-hitter against the Red Sox on Thursday night, with his run at history being stopped short by one Will Middlebrooks, who doubled to left with two outs in the seventh inning.
It was probably a pretty disappointing moment for Shoemaker. Opportunities like this do not come around everyday, much less against a lineup as weak as Boston's was without David Ortiz, Mike Napoli and, for most of the game, Yoenis Cespedes. To his credit, Shoemaker took the disappointment in stride, getting Allen Craig to ground out and striking out the first two batters of the eighth before finally being pulled after allowing a two-out walk to Mookie Betts.
Shoemaker's wife Danielle didn't handle it quite so well. The actual Tweet is gone now, deleted because...well, probably because the internet is infamously bad at taking a joke. But we've got the text saved for posterity Dayn Perry over at CBS Sports snapped a screenshot:
Ladies and gentlemen, let the Middlebrooks - Shoemaker feud begin!
