It's Yoenis Cespedes time in Boston!
One of the few positives of being out of the playoff race in August is that there's no need to stress the small things. Still, I feel it's worth mentioning that Cespedes in left while Nava's in right seems strictly sub-optimal. Both have middling range--and that might even be generous--but of the two, only one has a cannon arm that will play up in right field and be masked by the size of left. Not something that matters much now, and Cherington himself said they envision Cespedes in right in the immediate future, but something worth bringing up.
Also worth bringing up: Cespedes has split the Ortiz - Napoli duo! We'll see if this plan is set-in-stone headed forward, or if Farrell is planning to play around with the 3-5 spots over the last two months of the season to figure out what he's most comfortable with headed into 2015.
Otherwise it's pretty par for the course. Will Middlebrooks is absent one day after making his return from the disabled list (a fairly classic Red Sox move), with Mike Napoli back at first base. Christian Vazquez will catch Allen Webster, and probably as many games as he physically can now that David Ross is headed for the disabled list.
First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN, Fox Sports, and WEEI.
