Mookie Betts: 1-4, HR, K, SB
Will Middlebrooks: 0-4, 2 K
Travis Shaw: 1-4
Alex Hassan: 0-1, 2 BB, K
Garin Cecchini: 1-4, HR, K
Deven Marrero: 1-2, BB
Alex Wilson: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Heath Hembree: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Pawtucket W 4-2
Mookie Betts: 1-3, HR, 2 BB
Alex Hassan: 2-3, BB
Travis Shaw: 0-4, 2 K
Will Middlebrooks: 0-4, K
Garin Cecchini: 0-3, BB, K
Deven Marrero: 0-4
Edwin Escobar: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K
A strong start to Edwin Escobar and Heath Hembree in Red Sox uniforms. Escobar in particular will be glad to be done with the PCL and it's tendency to chew pitchers up and spit them out. It doesn't hurt that Escobar doesn't have to face Mookie Betts, either, given that the latter has three homers in five games now.
Portland W 2-1
Blake Swihart: 1-4, 2 K
Michael Almanzar: 2-3, BB
Brian Johnson: 7.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
Noe Ramirez: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
Portland L 1-2
Blake Swihart: 0-3, BB
Sean Coyle: 1-4, K
Michael Almanzar: 0-4, K
Keury De La Cruz: 1-4, K
Justin Haley: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Brian Johnson has a 2.05 ERA in 92 post-promotion innings this season. He's gaining on the top arms in the system in a hurry.
Salem L 6-13
Carlos Asuaje: 1-4, 2B
Simon Mercedes: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 0 K
Simon Mercedes, on the other hand, is quickly falling into obscurity, which isn't entirely fair given that he's still got big strikeout numbers. Hold out hope for an Owens-like breakout in 2015, but don't expect it.
Greenville L 1-4
Manuel Margot: 0-3
Tzu-Wei Lin: 1-3, K
Wendell Rijo: 1-2, 2B, BB, K
Trey Ball: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 2 K
Do we still take that from Trey Ball? Two months ago I'd say sure, but over his previous five games, he'd only had one really bad outing, and had looked a lot better than this in his good ones. I'll still take this over his six-run explosions, but maybe the standards have been raised ever so slightly.
Lowell L 4-5
Danny Mars: 0-5, 2 K
Sam Travis: 2-4, K,
Lowell W 11-4
Danny Mars: 3-5, 2B
Sam Travis: 3-5, E
Sam Travis has 12 hits in his last four games. That seems good.
GCL Red Sox L 1-2
Trenton Kemp: 0-4, 2 K
Michael Chavis: 1-4, 2 K
Luis Alexander Basabe: 1-4, 2 K, CS
Josh Ockimey 0-1
GCL Red Sox W 11-1
Rafael Devers: 1-3, 2B, BB
Josh Ockimey: 0-5, K
Luis Alexander Basabe: 3-5, K, A
GCL Red Sox W 7-1
Rafael Devers: 1-4, BB, K
Josh Ockimey: 0-1, 2 BB
Luis Alexander Basabe: 2-5, 2B, K
Trenton Kemp: 0-3, BB, K
Michael Kopech: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Head over to SoxProspects.com and check out Rafael Devers' new ranking. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that for someone who still hasn't seen Lowell.
Then again, he probably won't see Lowell at all, making him an 18-year-old starting the season in Greenville who miht well not turn 19 until he's in Salem. So there's that.
