Good news is rare these days for the Red Sox, but we've got at least this: David Ortiz is healthy enough to play today as the Red Sox take on David Price and the Rays.
If there's one positive we've seen over these past few days, it's that David Ortiz can still be a very bad man with the baseball bat. So when he exited Thursday night's 0-8 loss to Toronto in the last at bat of the game, his back having seemingly seized up during a checked swing, it was the perfect way to cap off a few pretty miserable few days.
But hey, here he is batting third against David Price. There's no love lost between those two, you can be sure. That in turn means we presumably don't have to worry about some huge Ortiz injury that leaves him diminished possibly into 2015 as we have seen happen from time to time with Big Papi--the wrist from 2008-2009 and the Achilleskeeping him out to start 2013 come to mind.
Other than that, it's pretty standard fare for the Red Sox against a lefty like price. I don't know how much one game can do to drive down trade value, but hopefully they do about as much as they can and then celebrate by signing their own starting pitcher to an extension.
Please?
First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN, the MLB Network, and WEEI
