Jake Peavy is on the mound for yet another start he didn't seem likely to have with the Red Sox as Boston goes for their fourth straight win.
I'm not saying this is a terrible thing at the moment. He's actually put together a pair of positive starts, and while that's a small sample compared to his poor early-season performances, if there's any chance to get a good return for him at the trade deadline, it will come as a result of a good run like this one.
Christian Vazquez is the one young player to miss out on the day, with David Ross starting the afternoon game after the night game. Stephen Drew is also out, though whether that's more to do with the lefty on the mound or player development is unclear.
Less unclear is Jonny Gomes' presence over Daniel Nava. While both members of the platoon seem to be in the midst of disappointing seasons, their splits are still as good as ever, particularly if you give Nava some leeway for that first month where he forgot how to play baseball. While the left-handed half is certainly playing better at the moment, there's something to be said for the fact that he hasn't really had to face lefties at all recently.
First pitch is at 4:10 p.m. ET with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
