After finally getting some runs out of their lineup Thursday night, the Red Sox will make some pretty convincing offensive upgrades, swapping out Grady Sizemore and David Ross for Xander Bogaerts and A.J. Pierzynski. If last night's lineup was good for five runs, this night's should be good for at least as many, and generally speaking that's enough to get a win with John Lackey on the mound.
But...that's hardly how baseball works, and if Justin Masterson hasn't been having a very good season, he's already shut down the Red Sox for seven innings once this season. What's more, he wasn't too bad in his last outing against the Rangers, either, suggesting that facing Boston's weak attack may have been all he needed to get back on track.
We'll hope, for now, that that's not the case. But so far this year our hopes haven't been answered all that often.
First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. EST with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
