The Red Sox will send Jake Peavy to the mound against Atlanta southpaw Mike Minor Thursday night as they seek a series sweep over the Braves.
UPDATE: Never mind. A.J. Pierzynski is replacing David Ortiz (calf) at DH, batting cleanup. All is lost.
Ah, Lavarnway at first base. 2012 is truly in the air. Except that the Red Sox have actually won three straight games, and are on the verge of sweeping a pretty good Braves team. I know, it's crazy, right?
If they're to get this done, they'll need Jake Peavy to be good, which really isn't something he's been in a while. In his five may starts, Peavy has allowed opponents to hit .313/.373/.518, leaving him with a 6.59 ERA on the month. He's produced only 16 strikeouts, walking 12 in his 29 innings of work and allowing four home runs. There's just not much positive going on with him right now. And while the lineup has been putting up some decent numbers of late...well, it's still not an easy bunch to favor in a shootout.
First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. with broadcasts on NESN, WEEI, and the MLB Network.
