Pawtucket L 0-4
Ryan Roberts: 0-3, BB
Daniel Nava: 1-4, 2B
Ryan Lavarnway: 1-4, 2B, K
Garin Cecchini: 0-3
Dan Butler: 1-3
Rich Hill: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
Drake Britton: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
With Shane Victorino having hurt himself in last night's game, Daniel Nava is on his way back to the Red Sox. His numbers in Pawtucket don't look great, but there's reason to be optimistic: he's gotten back to drawing walks and has cut down his alarming strikeout rate, having whiffed only once in his last 24 plate appearances.
Portland W 4-3 (In 10)
Mookie Betts: 0-5, 2 K
Deven Marrero: 0-5, K
Travis Shaw: 1-2, 3 BB
Henry Ramos: 2-5
Blake Swihart: 3-5, K
Sean Coyle: 2-5, 2B
Noe Ramirez: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
In the nine games since the last day of his on-base streak, Mookie Betts is hitting just .200 (6-for-30). That being said, five of those six hits have gone for extra bases, and he's drawn six walks (to three strikeouts) in the meantime. If Betts' line over this period is just .200/.351/.400, it seems to have a lot more to do with rough luck than anything else. It's hard to make contact 27 times and have only five extra-base hits and a lone single actually drop in.
And, hey, that's a Sean Coyle sighting! The perpetually-injured outfielder was hitting .316/.381/.474 before winding up on the disabled list in late April.
Salem W 8-2
Simon Mercedes: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
It seems like the organization is comfortable with ramping up Mercedes' innings count now. He started the year with a number of shorter outings, but has gone at least five in two of his last three starts, and that middle one ended early due to ineffectiveness more than anything else.
Greenville W 2-0
Stephen Drew: 1-2, K
Tzu-Wei Lin: 0-1, BB
Wendell Rijo: 0-4, 3 K
Manuel Margot: 0-2, 2 BB
Stephen Drew looked better in his return to action than Wendell Rijo did in his. Rijo's batting average has fallen all the way to .276 now, though his OBP is still up around .400.
