The Red Sox will have Mike Carp in left field and Jonny Gomes in right, giving Shane Victorino the day off as they go for another series win against Phil Hughes and the Twins.

It's awkward timing for the Red Sox to have both Grady Sizemore and Shane Victorino out of the lineup. It's very much the worst of both worlds to have Gomes in right field defensively up against a right-handed pitcher in Phil Hughes. The situation is only made worse by the fact that Clay Buchholz is on the mound, meaning the Red Sox could likely use all the help they can get both in the field and at the plate.
Felix Doubront's strong start last night may well have put some faith back in the rotation after Peavy's disaster performance, but even when Peavy was on his hot streak patience was wearing thin with Buchholz struggling game in and game out. Now that the rotation seems that much more uncertain, he might well be coming up on his last chance to prove that a trip to the disabled list is unnecessary.
First pitch is at 1:10 p.m. EST with broadcasts on NESN and WEEI.
