For the time being, things are good in Red Sox nation. The team is above .500 again at 19-18, is largely enjoying good health, and many of the problems that seemed to plague them in the early weeks are fading.
That's why this is a pretty big series. If the Red Sox can continue to perform like that, even if it's just in a 2-1 series win, it will be a reaffirmation of their...well, let's not call it a comeback. But if things go wrong against a sub-.500 team, even if it's one not so far off from where we were not long ago, it's a short, short fall back below the line.
Pivotal? Perhaps that's going too far. But it feels like it's as close to that as can be in May.
