Red Sox vs. Twins lineups: The starting nine?

Leon Halip

Do the Red Sox have their starting nine playing together for the first time this year?

John Farrell is giving his lineup a very 2013 look Thursday afternoon as the Red Sox take on the Minnesota Twins.

Boston Red Sox (5-8)

  1. Daniel Nava, LF
  2. Shane Victorino, RF
  3. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  4. David Ortiz, DH
  5. Mike Napoli, 1B
  6. A.J. Pierzynski, C
  7. Xander Bogaerts, SS
  8. Will Middlebrooks, 3B
  9. Jackie Bradley Jr., CF

Starting Pitcher -- Jake Peavy

Minnesota Twins (5-6)

  1. Aaron Hicks, CF
  2. Brian Dozier, 2B
  3. Joe Mauer, 1B
  4. Josh Willingham, LF
  5. Oswaldo Arcia, RF
  6. Trevor Plouffe, 3B
  7. Jason Kubel, DH
  8. Kurt Suzuki, C
  9. Danny Santana, SS

Starting Pitcher -- Phil Hughes

For the first time this spring, John Farrell is switching back to the Dustin Pedroia - David Ortiz - Mike Napoli group at 3 - 4 - 5 rather than 2 - 3 - 4. Interestingly, it comes right after a day off which has left Farrell with the opportunity to play what was expected to be his full starting lineup coming into the spring together for the first time.

It will be interesting to see if this sort of lineup becomes commonplace over the next week or so, or if Farrell heads back to the sort of lineup we've seen so far in March. Hopefully, either way, it doesn't include A.J. Pierzynski batting ahead of Xander Bogaerts. That's just plain unsettling, even on March 13.

First pitch is at 1:05 p.m. EST with MLB Network providing the broadcast.
