Comments: Interestingly enough, I'm sitting here a bit tipsy writing an article about Drake Britton. Britton's claim to fame last year was not the number of guys he mowed down as a lefty out of the Sox pen but the DUI he accumulated in Florida getting ready for the season. Hopefully he's moved past that and learned something, because he definitely has the talent to support the team in 2014. Britton doesn't seem to have a position on the 25-man roster out of ST but he's a lefty reliever and he pitched a pretty decent 21 IP last year for the big league club. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Britton could be an asset later in the season for the club if injuries give him the opportunity.
- Britton has been a starter for his entire minor league career, and just converted to reliever in 2013.
- Britton has already gone through one Tommy John surgery.
- Britton came up in late July last year and proceeded to go 8 IP with 1 BB and 6 SO during his debut month.
Season Outlook: Britton has no spot in an already deep Red Sox bullpen, but he has an option and is most likely the first lefty option on the Pawtucket/Boston shuttle. He's shown an ability to get righties out and may have a future as a reliever, but it remains to be seen if that future is with Boston.
