Jacoby Ellsbury could make his return to action Wednesday night, playing for the first time since he was shut down with a fractured foot nearly three weeks ago.
Scott Lauber lays out the plan going forward:
Ellsbury will take batting practice, go through pregame workout. If all goes well, he'll play at least part of tomorrow night's game #RedSox

It's an if, to be sure, but it's the first indication of a possible return for Ellsbury outside of some general smoke surrounding the final series of the year against the Orioles. And pretty big news at that. It's not terribly surprising to see this come about so suddenly--the word from the team has always been that no news simply meant they weren't talking, with Ellsbury agreeing to keep quiet to in order to avoid mixed messages.
Now they have news to give us, and the news seems to be good. Hopefully Ellsbury is back to leading off tomorrow, even if it only lasts a few innings.
