Red Sox vs. Blue Jays: A win to take the A.L. East

Winslow Townson

Is tonight the night the Red Sox wrap up the East?

With 154 games and 93 wins behind them, the Red Sox need just one more to secure their spot atop the American League East. To that end, they'll send Jon Lester to the mound against Esmil Rogers and the Jays, hoping for another big start from the southpaw who looks increasingly likely to be their first man up in the rotation when the postseason gets underway.

Boston Red Sox (93-61)

  1. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  2. Shane Victorino, CF
  3. David Ortiz, DH
  4. Mike Napoli, 1B
  5. Mike Carp, LF
  6. Daniel Nava, RF
  7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
  8. Stephen Drew, SS
  9. Will Middlebrooks, 3B

Starting Pitcher -- Jon Lester

Toronto Blue Jays (70-82)

  1. Jose Reyes, SS
  2. Rajai Davis, LF
  3. Brett Lawrie, 3B
  4. Colby Rasmus, CF
  5. Moises Sierra, DH
  6. Mark DeRosa, 1B
  7. Anthony Gose, RF
  8. J.P. Arencibia, C
  9. Ryan Goins, 2B

Starting Pitcher -- Esmil Rogers

While a Baltimore victory over Tampa Bay could also seal the division win for the Red Sox, nobody is looking to back into the title. With Lester on the mound against Rogers, a solid lineup with Shane Victorino back in play, and Fenway Park playing host, this is a game the Red Sox should be wrapping up with a nice, deserved celebration, not with scoreboard watching.

Not that the Red Sox and Jays are likely to finish faster than the Rays and Orioles. Not if history is any indication, at least.
