I really don't understand what the objection to instant replay is in MLB. Are they afraid that terrible calls like last night's blown, out call on Daniel Nava at the plate will be reversed? Are they afraid that baseball fans are too bored already?
That was a huge loss last night. Obviously it wasn't just the umpires fault. This one is largely on Farrell and Nava. Nava owned up to it, Farrell didn't really. There's no reason not to run Iglesias for Lavarnway in the 8th. So what if it's his "day off"? These games are crucial. He would have to run 180 feet and no more. MLB players are coddled like none other.
Winning the division has become so much more important now because of the wild card play in game. I'd rather not see Yu Darvish or Chris Tilman against Jon Lester to get into the first round of the playoffs. This was a two game swing. We should be 1.5 games up instead of .5 games back.
