Red Sox vs. Blue Jays lineup: Floundering Red Sox turn to Jon Lester

Rick Yeatts

A struggling Red Sox team will send it back to the top of the rotation, hoping for a reprieve from a string of poor results.

After by far the worst week of their season to date, the Red Sox have fallen to second in the AL East (albeit only by win percentage). Tonight they'll turn to Jon Lester to set them back on the right path.

Boston Red Sox (21-14)

  1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF
  2. Shane Victorino, RF
  3. Dustin Pedroia, 2B
  4. David Ortiz, DH
  5. Mike Napoli, 1B
  6. Daniel Nava, LF
  7. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, C
  8. Will MIddlebrooks, 3B
  9. Stephen Drew, SS

Starting Pitcher -- Jon Lester

Toronto Blue Jays (13-23)

  1. Rajai Davis, DH
  2. Melky Cabrera, LF
  3. Jose Bautista, RF
  4. Edwin Encarnacion, 1B
  5. J.P. Arencibia, C
  6. Mark DeRosa, 2B
  7. Brett Lawrie, 3B
  8. Colby Rasmus, CF
  9. Maicer Izturis, SS

Starting Pitcher -- Ramon Ortiz

With the Blue Jays coming to town, it might seem like the right time to turn things around. But even the division's cellar dwellers have been better in the past week than the Sox, and it's not like the Twins were looking like world beaters coming into Fenway. Simply put, the Red Sox just have to play better baseball. It doesn't matter how talented a team is when none of that talent is showing through on the field.

Then again, this is Jon Lester vs. Ramon Ortiz. Yes, that Ramon Ortiz, the one just a few weeks from 40 with a 90 ERA+. If the Sox can't win this one, honestly, they should just pack up shop and give the Paw Sox a shot.
