Lineups Unveiled For Red Sox College Doubleheader

You won't be able to see the games on television, but you can see who is playing in them

The Red Sox are playing a doubleheader to kick off the unofficial start of spring training games, taking on local universities Northeastern and Boston College. Northeastern will take the field against the Sox at 1:35 at JetBlue Park, while BC gets their turn at 4 pm. While you might be excited about the prospect of seeing some of Boston's new players or highly touted prospects in action, we've got some bad news for you, as neither of these games will be televised.

You've already seen the pitching for each of these seven-inning affairs -- the Red Sox are using relievers exclusively against both schools, as the starters aren't going to get their work in until the start of Grapefruit League action. (If you need a non-clickable reminder, Joel Hanrahan gets the start against Northeastern, while Koji Uehara faces off against Boston College.) The lineups, however, were recently unveiled. Boston will use major-league regulars almost exclusively against Northeastern, while the BC game is populated mostly by minor-league talent. It's not the norm, but it does make it even more of a shame that these games aren't on NESN.

Don't read too much into these lineups, as neither of David Ortiz nor Mike Napoli are playing yet, and it's not like it much matters whether Shane Victorino or Jonny Gomes are facing a right-handed college arm or a left-handed one in a game so exhibition-y it doesn't even count on the spring schedule. Mike Carp isn't playing in either game, as he isn't arriving in Fort Myers until Friday.
