Top Offensive Seasons: Wade Bggs comes in with the top offensive season by wRC+ with a 167 in 1988. Youkilis (in part-time duty) managed the 2nd and 3rd best marks with 147 in 2009 and 146 in 2008 and Bill Mueller has the 4th best mark with 145 in 2003. Adrian Beltre's 2010 rounds out the top 5 with a 140.

Top Defensive Seasons: John Valentin out up a 22.4 Def rating in 1998 and Boggs posted a 19.6 in 1989.

Top Overall Seasons: Wade Boggs posted 2 8+ WAR seasons in 1988 and 1989 and a 6.1 mark in 1991. Adrian Beltre's 2010 was the third best mark with a 6.6 WAR. Youkilis posted nice seasons in 2008 and 2009 but that was primarily at 1B.

Worst Season: 2000 - The turn of the century was not a great time to be a Boston fan as the 2000 team put up some awful player combos. The 4-headed hydra led by Manny Alexander and including such luminaries as Ed Sprague, Wilton Veras and Lou Merloni produced below replacement value with a -1.3 at the position.

Worst Defense: Shea Hillenbrand was pretty bad at 3B and just generally pretty bad at baseball throughout his short stint as a Red Sox player. Shea's marks on defense consistent of -0.7, -5.9, -4.7. Hillenbrand could not hit enough to be at 1B or DH and the Sox shipped him off to Arizona for Korean close Byung-Hyun Kim. Bill Mueller gets a slight nod here as well, but at least he could hit.

Average Seasons (2.0+ WAR): 18 of 25 (72%)

Above Average Seasons (4.0+ WAR): 8 of 25 (32%)

Star Seasons (6.0+ WAR): 4 of 25 (16%)

Top Red Sox 3B of the Past 25 Years: Wade Boggs

So, I'll be honest, my 80's bias is showing here a bit. Even though we catch Boggs at the end of his Red Sox career here, its hard not to look past back-to-back 8.0+ win seasons nor his outstanding defense and on-base ability. Youk gets an honorable mention but loses out in WAR and due to his split time at 1B/3B. Perhaps I'll have to make up a utility position for Youk on the team.
