For the first time in five years, the ALCS is back at Fenway Park. The Red Sox have about as difficult an opponent as possible in the Detroit Tigers. If the Rays were no pushovers--at least once they got to Tampa Bay--Detroit is on another level with their ridiculous rotation and baseball's best hitter, healthy or not.
Now that the Rays are gone, I think I'm finally ready to say that this team has done everything necessary to make 2013 a fantastic, fantastic year from beginning to end. Nothing that happens from tonight on is likely to change that. But that doesn't mean I'm ready for the ride to be over yet. I don't care whether it takes four, five, six, or seven games. There's a perfect ending out there for this team of redemption, and it certainly doesn't come in the ALCS. These aren't some Rick Vaughn Indians--and no, the sequel doesn't count.
The World Series is just four wins away.
