Examining the Joel Hanrahan trade, looking at player options and the Red Sox 40 man roster situation, and a quick discussion of Boston's catcher situation now and in the future.
Somehow, maybe because of the Christmas season, maybe because of Hanukkah, maybe because of Kwanzaa, maybe because of all three, or maybe even because we just plain forgot, we at the OTM Podcast never got around to discussing the Red Sox acquisition of reliever Joel Hanrahan from the Pirates. Silly us! In this, the 77th Over The Monster Podcast, we, meaning Marc Normandin and Matt Kory, finally get around to rectifying that hideous oversight. We get into each player moved in the deal and discuss further how Hanrahan might fit into the Red Sox bullpen and the impact he'll have on the team.
We also discuss Boston's glut of minor leaguers and the ramifications for holding on to such, following up on Marc's article on the topic (link here). Then we enjoy a short conversation on the catching in Boston's organization as a whole, both in the immediate and far flung future. Do the Red Sox need to make a trade? Can they go into next season with both Jarrod Saltalamacchia, David Ross, and Ryan Lavarnway? You'll have to listen to find out. Don't miss out on this, the 77th Over The Monster Podcast!
