In case you missed this the first time -- or just have forgotten to let us know you want to come -- we're running it again today. One week from today, we'll be hosting this event, so don't miss out! - Marc
The 2012 season hasn't exactly gone as planned, but we can approach the end with a bit of fun, for those of you in the Boston area that are interested. Friend of the site Steve Slowinski has put together a night of baseball, beer, and food at the Lansdowne Pub with a good cause in mind, and you're all invited to attend.
Here's Steve's explanation of the evening:
On Tuesday September 18th, the Red Sox are facing the Rays in Tampa Bay. Starting at 6:30pm that evening, we've reserved a private room at the Lansdowne Pub -- right down the street from Fenway -- where we plan to have a giant get-together for Over the Monster readers and Red Sox fans. It'll be an informal event where we can all watch some baseball, mingle with fellow fans and OTM readers, and debate what's the correct pronunciation of WAR.
As if that wasn't enticing enough, Paul Swydan and David Laurila from FanGraphs will be in attendance, along with Marc Normandin and Brendan O'Toole from OTM. If the mic situation works out, we'll plan on doing an informal Q&A at some point during the evening.
The event is being hosted by Partners for Youth with Disabilities, a mentoring organization that serves youth with disabilities in the Boston area. I currently run the one-to-one mentoring program there, and I desperately need adult male sports fans that would like to be mentors. There are tons of male youth that are simply looking for a friend to talk sports with, to have a catch with them, or to take them to sports games.
At the event, we'll be providing free appetizers for all, and we'll also be raffling off two Red Sox tickets to anyone that signs up to receive more information on our program and becoming a mentor. You can sign up below to enter the raffle, or sign up during the event.
Free appetizers, a chance to go to a future Red Sox game, an opportunity to hang out with other OTM readers and Red Sox writers, and, of course, all for an important cause. We hope that you'll come down to hang out with us that evening, to talk Sox and, if nothing else, maybe even see how a Q&A with me after a few drinks goes.
If you are interested in attending -- and are at least 18 years old -- you can let us know through this Google sign-up form. It will help us get an idea of how many readers we can expect in attendance that night, so please, if you're thinking of going tell us!
