The Red Sox have activated Ryan Sweeney from the disabled list for the second half of tonight's doubleheader against the New York Yankees, with Ryan Kalish to Pawtucket the likely countermove (his locker was being packed up after the first game).
The swap of Ryans seems like a positive one for the moment, as Kalish has struggled in his 17 games with the big-league team. He's never really had a chance to take on Triple-A while healthy, either, leaving him somewhat vulnerable at the plate to major league pitchers.
Sweeney has been absent from the team for three weeks now with a stress fracture in his toe. Between that and a concussion, the outfielder has been living up to his reputation for fragility. After a strong start to the year, he's fallen off, and is now hitting a fairly typical (but not terribly impressive) .292/.330/.404 on the season.
Sweeney will bat seventh and play center field tonight against Phil Hughes and the Yankees.
