The Red Sox will be without Will Middlebrooks Monday night as they take on Jarrod Parker and the Oakland Athletics.
After apparently injuring his hamstring in last night's game, Middlebrooks will take the day off, forcing Nick Punto into the lineup at third base. Mike Aviles, meanwhile, will be back in action at shortstop.
It's not the first time Middlebrooks has dealt with hamstring issues, having been pulled from a game earlier this season with a similar complaint. There doesn't seem to be any DL trip imminent, but that could change given the proximity of the All-Star break and the limited flexibility of the roster at the moment. For now, we just have to hope that tomorrow will bring good news.
Meanwhile, Coco Crisp will be the designated hitter for the Athletics. Yeah. That's a thing that's happening.
