Another spring, another series of tiring posts jokingly pretending that the Mayor's Cup is a real thing that almost matters.
Well not me! Not this year! You'll hear no more of it on Over The Monster until I forget I said this and bring it up next time. Or maybe even in tonight's recap.
Either way, though, it's a game against a real live major league team--or at least half of one, since the Twins are split squad. And, frankly, when it's the Twins that are split in half during spring training, can you really call it a major league team?
I mean, come on, this is a lineup not even a mother could love:
|BOSTON RED SOX||MINNESOTA TWINS|
|Dustin Pedroia - 2B||Ben Revere - LF|
|Jacoby Ellsbury - CF||Tsuyoshi Nishioka - SS|
|Cody Ross - RF||Rene Tosoni - RF|
|Adrian Gonzalez - 1B||Aaron Bates - 1B|
|Mike Aviles - SS||Luke Hughes - DH|
|Jarrod Saltalamacchia - C||Sean Burroughs - 3B|
|Darnell McDonald - LF||Ray Chang - 2B|
|Will Middlebrooks - 3B||Rene Rivera - C|
|Juan Carlos Linares - DH||Darin Mastroianni - CF|
You may remember Aaron Bates and Ray Chang from their time in the Red Sox' system.
Josh Beckett will get the start for the Red Sox with Tony Doyle--a son of Concord--getting the nod for the Twins.
